Our Beginnings

Two Companies.

Basin Service was started in the early 1960s by Don Ballantyne. Ward Williston was established in the 1950s by Leonard Ward.

Two oil and gas companies, with a long history, doing business in North Central North Dakota for over 60 years.

TRANSITION

Ward Williston Sale

In 2011, the Michigan owners of Ward Williston Company sold the trucking and service divisions of the company to a Belfield, ND oil and gas service company. This included, water hauling, oil hauling, roustabouts, contract pumpers, hot oil trucks, excavation, and workover rigs.

  • Water Hauling, Crude Hauling, Roustabouts, Workover Rigs, Hot Oil Trucks, and other service assets were sold to the Belfield, ND based service company, and continued to operate from the Ward Williston, Westhope, ND yard.

  • During this time, Basin Service continues to operate in Westhope, ND.

Robbie and Lori Conway

A new Future

In 2013, Robbie Conway, of Westhope, ND, purchased Basin Service Company from the previous owner.

After this, Robbie approached the Belfield, ND based oil and gas company, and offered to purchase the old Westhope, ND, Ward Williston yard, it’s assets, and hire all the employees that were currently working out of Westhope and Lignite, ND.

Robbie had worked for Ward Williston and the Belfield, ND service company previously, and wanted to unify Basin Service with the local employees and assets of the old Ward Williston service division. And a new, larger, and more diversified Basin Service Company, Inc. was born.

Shorty afterwards, in 2014, Robbie purchased his first workover rig. And Basin Well Service, Inc. was born in March of that year.

And that same month, March of 2014, the local pump shop, Westhope Pump and Supply was also incorporated as Spearfish Oilfield Supply, Inc.
